In these grim times, high quality, original, grassroots journalism is more important than ever. The Media Co-op is seeking ten new monthly donors to strengthen our ability to report on the crises we collectively face and on ordinary people's efforts to make change – as well as to bring you ideas and analyses from people at the centre of those struggles.
For two decades, we’ve been supported by the generosity of individual readers, as well as occassional donations from labour and student unions. That has allowed us to publish a lot of different kinds of things.
Since we last asked for money, we’ve been busy. The Media Co-op has reported on the historic student strike in Montreal in support of Palestine, a grassroots initiative supporting racialized and politicized job-seekers in Toronto, solidarity organizing in Canada with the Alliance of Sahel States, the importance of considering multi-generational households as we address the housing crisis, and much more.
We’ve published analyses from people involved in social movements about solidarity with postal workers, support for grassroots efforts in Sudan, the Carney government’s attacks on migrants, and the growing alliance between the Hindutva movement and the far right.
We’ve published interviews with a long-time immigrant worker organizer, a radical musician from Montreal, an abolitionist feminist based in New Brunswick, a poet who has been organizing in solidarity with Palestine in Toronto, and more. During last summer’s wildfires, we published reflections from a prisoner in Michigan who was living through the impacts. And we heard from someone involved in two new books drawing lessons from “two foundational agreements between settlers and the Haudenosaunee people.”
The bulk of your donation will go to pay the people who write for us. The rest will help us maintain the infrastructure that we need to publish.
Our donation link takes you to PayPal. It asks you to donate to “The Dominion” – that's the Media Co-op’s legal name. Be sure to click on, "Make this a monthly donation." Recurring donations give us the stability we need to plan for the future.
If you can contribute just a few dollars a month, it will go a long way to help us keep bringing you the kinds of content you won’t find in the mainstream!
And finally, thank you for being a reader of The Media Co-op, for telling your friends, and for being a supporter.
